Vermont Studio Center, April 2010
I spent the April of 2010 at Johnson, VT, doing a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, where I mostly made paintings and drawings. My time at the VSC culminated in an open studio. One friend's remark stuck with me. She said, "I feel like I am learning a new language." This made me think of each piece as part of a syntactical whole. At the center of the show was an inventory of art supplies I had used at VSC organised on a ladder. Finally, at the top, there was the polar bear, triumphant, funny, absurd perhaps; a necessary gesture to bring it all together if you will.
I kept a diary at VSC and called it resi-do. Click here to have a peek.
